Get up, get down, dance to the sound of the musical compositions created by the seventh-and eighth-grade students at O'Farrell Community School in San Diego, Calif. In this multi-disciplinary project, students formed bands, investigated and critiqued a variety of musical styles and compositions, learned the fundamentals of reading and composing music, created their own rhythmic drum transcripts, and finally composed and recorded their own melodies. But that's not all: next, they created their own set of Web pages at www.mp3.com, to which they uploaded their compositions and offered them for sale in CD format. They use email to manage their accounts and collaborate with other musicians online. This project clearly demonstrates that the Internet is a truly integral part of the classroom. All proceeds from the sale of their CDs go to a charity of their choice.
