How did the Magna Carta influence the writing of the Declaration of Independence? What do Johann Sebastian Bach and Faith Hill have in common? What's the difference between feudalism and slavery? History students at Cheney Middle School in Cheney, Kansas, were asked to use the Internet to compare and contrast events, personages, concepts, or technologies from two distinct periods in history, and to use text, photographs, a Venn diagram, and a PowerPoint presentation to capture and present their findings. Students then created individual Web pages to bring together the various elements of their projects. This project shares fresh and innovative approaches to the use of Internet technology engaging students in the process of acquiring knowledge. The finished site also includes a series of Web Quests devoted to biography, transportation, war, and entertainment; and a series of timelines that places each of the student projects in its historical context.
