If TIME Magazine had existed during the Civil War, how would it have covered this most wrenching American conflict? That's the question Cynthia Wright, a history teacher at Rancho Santa Margarita Intermediate School, asked her students. The result is a multi-disciplinary project that combines individual oral presentations accompanied by student-designed PowerPoint slides, and an online facsimile of TIME Magazine, completed by the group as a whole. Ms. Wright used special software to film students' oral presentations and place them alongside their PowerPoint slideshows, which are then streamed over the Web and made available to historians and other interested parties throughout the world. Even Ms.Wright's instructions to her class are available in the same format. This project demonstrates a strong commitment to the use of Internet technology to increase students' ability to plan, locate, evaluate, select and use information to improve historical understanding and draw conclusions.
