Ask students in Casper, Wyoming, and Kagoshima, Japan, whether the Internet can bridge the geographic and cultural distance that separates them and the answer would be a resounding, "Yes!" Students from two high schools in Wyoming have partnered with students from two high schools in Japan in a project designed to promote language acquisition and cultural exchange. The Wyoming students design and create individual Web pages introducing themselves in Japanese. Students from both countries use email, discussion boards, videoconferencing, and an Internet chat program developed by a teacher at Shigakukan High School in Japan to communicate and collaborate with their Japanese counterparts. This project demonstates a strong commitment to use of Internet technology to increase students' ability to plan, locate, evaluate, select and use information to address cultural differences between countries.
