Wines Elementary School in the Ann Arbor Public Schools

It may be true that in the kitchen, too many cooks spoil the stew. But when two fifth-grade classes from two different elementary schools in Ann Arbor, Michigan, teamed up to create an interactive story, they produced a savory blend of intertwined perspectives and plot lines. And thanks to the magic of the Internet, new ingredients continue to be added as the circle of collaboration widens beyond the two original classes to include anyone from any grade level who wishes to contribute. The story incorporates a number of branching points, each of which takes the story in a different direction. As a result, no two experiences of the story are the same: for some, it may be ghost story; for others, an adventure tale, a mystery, a horror story, or a humorous fairy tale. Story text is augmented by hand-drawn illustrations and maps. The project demonstrates that Internet technology truly is an integral part of this classroom.
