Apple Bytes

When students in 25 second-grade classrooms from all over the world collaborate to produce an assortment of poems, drawings, and online games about apples, the result is bound to be as sweet and refreshing as the fruit that inspired them. Organized by Susan Silverman, a computer resource teacher from Port Jefferson Station, New York, Apple Bytes brings together students from South Africa, Canada, and several states in the U.S. to share the fruits of their literary and artistic talents. This project demonstrates fresh and innovative approaches to the use of Internet technology that engages students in the process of acquiring knowledge. In addition to showcasing the students' work, the site includes a full description of the curriculum and a complete array of resources, lesson plans, and online activities, as well as examples of similarly conceived collaborative projects-in short, everything a teacher needs to replicate this project or create something similar but entirely original.
