Eligible Teachers
Eligible teachers are credentialed K-12 educators who teach science in a Qualifying School either in a self-contained classroom (i.e. third grade classroom) or a subject-specific course (i.e. biology). Each application must be the original work of the applicant or group and each teacher may submit only one individual or group application. Previous winners of the Science in Action Awards are not eligible.

Qualifying Schools
A Qualifying School is any public, private or parochial school that teaches any combination of grades K-12 and is geographically located in one of the Eligible Regions, with tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) or Section 170(c)(1) of the Internal Revenue Code which is non-discriminatory in its charter/objectives and in the treatment of its staff or constituents.

The Eligible Regions are all counties in the State of Maine; Tarrant County, Texas; and designated areas of Silicon Valley, California:
